Winifred Clopton Golombeck, 98, of Austin formerly of Gainesville, TX passed away peacefully on February 15, 2010 in Austin, Texas.
Wini was born in 1911 in Gainesville, Texas to Blanche Whaley Clopton and Marion Wallace Clopton. She graduated from Gainesville High school in 1929 and in 1931 from the Hockday School, where she continued for two years after graduation as a music instructor.
An accomplished professional pianist, Wini performed as a concert, studio, and USO show musician for the next 20 years. She married Herbert Golombeck in 1949, and eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia before returning to Texas in the 1980's. Wini continued her passion for musical performance at the Summit at Westlake Hills in Austin for the last fifteen years of her life.
Wini was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Herbert A. Golombeck; by her sister Sara Clopton Campbell of Gainesville, and by her brother Marion Wallace Clopton, Jr. of Wichita Falls. She is survived by her son, Richard Golombeck of Austin; her daughter - in - law, Vera V.Golomback; her granddaughter, Sara Michelle Golombeck; her grandson, Richard Alexander Golombeck; and by her niece, Jan Clopton Vallado of FLower Mound, and her nephew, Russell Clopton of Iowa Park, and by their families.
Burial was held Saturday February 20, 2010 at Fariview Cemetery with the Rev. Don Yearger officiating. You may sign the on - line registry at www.geojcarroll.com.
