Mildred Embry Precise Hodge, age 86, of Gainesvlle passed away May 15, 2010 in Denton. Funeral services are set for Tuesday May 18 at 11 a.m. at Whaley United Methodist Church at 701 Rosedale Drive in Gainesville, Texas with Jim Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Bowie Texas at the Elmwood cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation is set for Monday May 17 from 4 – 6 p.m. in the chapel of Geo. Carroll Funeral Home at 602 Lindsay Street in Gainesville, Texas.
Mildred was born May 26, 1923 in St. Jo, Texas to Ruby Belle and James Henry Embry.
Mildred is survivored by her husband: Melvin J. (Jake) Hodge of Gainesville, Texas; children: Mary Kay Stein of Austin, Texas; Ken Precise of Victoria, Texas; Nance Hodge of Richardson, Texas; Mike Hodge of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren: Kenneth Marvin Precise of Victoria, Texas; Cody Hodge of Fort Worth; Kristen Hodge of Houston, Texas; Whitney Hodge of Crandall, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Cook Precise of Bowie, Texas; brother James Clark Embry and son Vance Roland Hodge of Rowlett, Texas.
Mildred lived a life of service to her family, church and community. She taught middle school in Perryton Texas before the birth of her children. She was an enthusiastic organizer and leader for numerous organizations: United Methodist Women, adult Sunday School and Bible studies, Whaley Funeral Committee, Parent Teacher Association. She enjoyed bridge, book reviews and stage productions, particularly musicals. She lived the past 30 years in Gainesville as an active participant in community activities and was especially active in the Whaley United Methodist Church. Mildred was always up for a trip or an outing, whether it be around the block or to another country. She was passionate about her family life. Her planning and execution of family celebrations and group meals was legendary and enjoyed by all.
Mildred was the type of woman who made each situation better and more special for everyone involved. She faced her last illness with courage and faith, enjoying every moment possible and setting an example for all. Truly, she will be missed by all that knew her, and especially by Jake, her husband of 30 years. “They don’t make ‘em like Mildred anymore.”
