William Lyner Purcell

Funeral services for William Lyner Purcell, 84, of Gainesville, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the New Resthaven Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the funeral home.

Mr. Purcell died August 5, 2010 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.

William Purcell was born in Myra and raised in the Hood community. He was born on July 12, 1926 to Joe and Joana Solomon Purcell. He was a farmer and loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He retired from the Red River Farm Co-op.

Mr. Purcell is survived by his son and daughter in law, Roy and Connie Purcell of Gainesville; daughter, Linda Thompson of Rogers, AR; daughter and son in law, Diane and Brad Durham of Rowlett; son and daughter in law, Rickey and Lora Purcell of Gainesville; grandchildren, Susan Thompson of Rogers, AR; Penny and Steven Fisher of Muenster; Christopher and Carla Thompson of Roger, AR; Tiffany and Jon Reed of Muenster; Heather Purcell of Denison; Travis Purcell of Denison; step-grandchildren Michael and Jennifer Durham of Little Elm; Sandra and Kevin Richardson of McKinney and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many special and dear friends including very special friend and caregiver Alicia Cervantes.

William is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Haney Purcell, his parents, and his brother, Joe Frank Purcell.
