James L. Hatchel, 69, of Moss Lake, died January 3, 2010 at his residence as a result of complications from Alzheimer's.
Funeral Services will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Wednesday January 6, 2010 at 11:00 am, with the Rev. Don Yeager officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood cemetery in Whitesboro. No visitation is planned.
James L. Hatchel was born in Scurry, Texas on June 9, 1940 to Marshall and Bonnie Shaw Hatchel. He married Allene Moore on October 4, 1963.
James attended Kaufman High School and was a home builder, aircraft mechanic, and a salesman during his lifetime. He worked for Kaufman home builders, Southwest Airmotive, LTV, American National Insurance Co., American Uniform Co. and Loew's. He was top salesman in the insurance business for many years. He retired in 2002 and completed the building of his and his wife's dream home that he had worked on for five years prior. This was one of his greatest accomplishments, of which he was so proud. James served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1962 where he was a navy seal, assigned to President Dwight D. Eisenhower for a period of time. James loved his family and friends, and enjoyed the fellowship of others. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He loved football and was an outstanding high school player and also for the Navy. He was always involved with his sons in peewee sports, hunting and fishing. He and his wife went on many fishing trips together and traveled a great deal. James and his wife Allene, lived and worked in the Dallas area for over forty years, retiring to Moss Lake in Gainesville in 2004. He was raised a Baptist, but had been attending the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. He was always proud to be a Texan.
Mr. Hatchel is survived by his wife Allene of Moss Lake, son Brad Hatchel of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law Craig and Laura Hatchel of Whitesboro and grandchildren Jordan and Chance Hatchel of Whitesboro. He is also survived by his sisters Sonja Bush of Sherman, Barbara Guinn of Hewitt, Jean Hall of Mesquite, Kay Foster of Plano and Gail Tilson of Kaufman, and a brother Marshall Hatchel of Kaufman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ricky Hatchel.
Pallbearers will be nephews of the Deceased.
James attended the Alzheimer's Time-Out Program at the Stanford House, so donations in his memory can be made to them or to the Alzheimer's Association. Donations can also be made to Home hospice of Cooke County.
