Samuel Charles Enderby

Samuel Charles Enderby was born to Abner and Ruth Enderby on February 11, 1918 in Gainesville, TX and died on May 9, 2009 at his home in Gainesville. Sam was a third generation Texan who lived his entire life in Gainesville. He opened Enderby Gas in 1945 and for the next 62 years, became known worldwide as an expert in the propane business. His handshake and his word were as good as gold and he expected the same from others. He was always gracious, honest and generous in both business and personal matters. Sam and his wife Davie Mae were longtime, active members of Whaley United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Davie Mae Chadwell Enderby, his son Jim Charles Enderby and his daughter Mary Jane Mann.

He is survived by his grandchildren David and Kristin Mann of Little Rock, AR., Nancy and Stewart Rowland of Houston, and four great-grandsons Aaron and Adam Mann, and Sam and Jack Rowland. He is also survived by by his brother & sister-in-law J.A. & Margene Enderby of Gainesville, son-in-law Robert Mann of Dallas and several nephews and nieces.

The family visitation will be at Geo. J. Carroll Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009. Following the burial, memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Whaley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Goodwin officiating.

The family requests memorial gifts to either Whaley United Methodist Church or Cooke County Home Hospice.
