Henry L. Popp
Funeral mass for Henry Linus Popp, 75, of Lindsay, are set for Wednesday January 20, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Lindsay with the Rev. Raymond McDaniel officiating. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday January 19, 2010 at St. Peters Catholic Church.
Henry was born in Gainesville on March 26, 1934 to Frank & Anna Neises Popp. On December 28, 1954 he married Jeanette Zimmerer. He was in the Army as a medic stationed in Germany in 1955. He lived northwest of Lindsay all of his life. In the early 1960's, Henry started a welding business at his house which later grew into Metal Sales on Hwy 82 in 1968. All of this was done while still maintaining the family farm.
He was an avid outdoorsman. He purchased a ranch in West Texas where he enjoyed hunting with his family. He also enjoyed his weekly card game with his friends. He knew everyone from his regular attendance at farm auctions throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
He was on the Lindsay ISD school board for 20 years, a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus, on the Soil Conservation Service and a founding member of the Cooke County Fair Association.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Jeanette, his daughters and sons in law Debbie and Tom Hartman of Muenster, Peggy and John Kasparek of Lindsay, Paula and Kenneth Hermes of Lindsay and Patty and Chuck Bone of Marietta, sons and daughter in laws Frank and Amy Popp of Lindsay and Andy and Jennifer Popp of Lindsay. He is also survived by nine grandsons, 4 granddaughters, 3 great grandsons and a sister Elsie Hess of Lindsay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rita Bode and Thecla Gossett, grandson Chad Hermes, and an infant brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lindsay Volunteer Fire Department or the St Peters Church Restoration Fund.
