Funeral services for Dorothy Elizabeth Wingert Bohls, 95, of Gainesville are set for 11 a.m. Thursday of next week, Nov. 5, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Dorothy died at home on Oct. 25, 2009 with family at her side.

Born in Gainesville on Jan. 6, 1914 to Wilhelm Gottlieb and Sarah Margaret (Delap) Wingert, she was the youngest of five children. She was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church and was one of the first babies baptized in the current building. She was a member of the Gainesville High School graduating class of 1931.

She met her future husband Clyde Bohls while working at the Kress store in Gainesville, where he was the manager. They were married on July 19, 1936. In 1939, they moved to Waco where Clyde would manage the Kress store and a year later their only daughter Linda Bohls was born. In 1941 they returned to Gainesville and established the business that would become Bohls Furniture. When the new building opened on California Street in 1959, Dorothy ran the Maple Shop upstairs and later the Green Stamp Store. Dorothy was a president of the Business and Professional Women's club in the 1930s, a founding and active member of Gainesville Garden Study Club and involved with her daughter's activities in Girl Scouts and PTA. She received an honorary life-time membership in the Presbyterian Women Association. She also enjoyed flower arranging, painting and crafts, entertaining and was well known for her whistling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Bohls and daughter Linda Bohls Newman.

She leaves behind her son-in-law, Ned Newman and wife Tommie Kirksmith-Newman; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jennifer and Donald Pitts; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Greg and Connie Newman; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Newman, Zoe Pitts and her “birthday twin” Jacob Newman, plus numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends.

Pallbearers will be Ned Newman, Greg Newman, Jacob Newman, Donald Pitts, Mike Goss and Dean Read.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cad Wingert, Richard Wingert, Steve Goss and Brett Wingert.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. next Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009.
