ROBERT HARRISON MARTINDALE

Funeral services for Robert Harrison Martindale, 73, of Lake Kiowa, are set for 2:00 PM Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Hillcrest Church of Christ with David Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. No visitation is planned.

Mr. Martindale passed away on December 2, 2009 at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He was born in Valley View, Texas on January 19, 1936 to Cletis Danel and Claudia Chisam Martindale; he was the oldest of nine children. On January 25, 1957 he married Mary Lou Palmer in Forth Worth, Texas.

He was a graduate of Valley View High School and attended Texas Tech University. In 1963 he opened Martindale Feed Mill in Valley View, which he owned and operated until 1988. In 1986 he purchased North Texas Bank & Trust. He served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer until 1996 when he sold the financial institution to First State Bank, at which time it became the first branch of FSB. He continued his banking career serving as Sr. Vice President for First State Bank, as well as a Director. When First State Bank opened its second branch at Lake Kiowa in 1998 he became the Branch President and stayed at that location until his retirement in December of 2001. He has continued to serve on the Board of Directors of the bank.

Mr. Martindale has also served on the Board of Directors of the Gainesville Memorial Hospital, now known as North Texas Medical Center and on the board of the North Texas Economic Foundation. He was a member of the Lake Kiowa Men’s Golf Association and past President of the Cooke County Men’s Golf Association. He is a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing his mandolin and listening to and writing bluegrass music. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends in his motor home.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Martindale of Lake Kiowa, daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Ryan Norwood of Valley View, son and daughter-in-law Danny and Shirlee Martindale of Gainesville. He is also survived by: five grandchildren, Chad Martindale and wife Syndi, Cody Martindale and wife Kristin, Jacob and Lyuda Norwood and Quay DePriest; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Rhyder Martindale; brothers, Dr. Billy Martindale of Denison and Larry and Max Martindale of Valley View; sisters, Gynelle Lemons of Lake Kiowa, Glenda Spears of Gainesville, Sandra Kyle of Lake Kiowa, Dianne Haley of Frisco and Rita Cowling of Valley View and numerous nieces and nephews.
