Alice Marie Hermes, age 85, longtime resident of Lindsay, most recently of Gainesville, passed away August 19, 2022 in Gainesville.
Alice was born August 27, 1936 in Muenster. She attended school and graduated from Sacred Heart in Muenster. She married Joe Hermes on November 10, 1954 in Muenster. Mrs. Hermes held a variety of jobs, including Linda Joe Shoe Company, Lindsay School Cafeteria, and Braum’s. She enjoyed playing volleyball in her youth and was always an avid reader. In her later years, she enjoyed quilting, working puzzles, and playing games with her children and grandchildren. She was skilled in gardening, baking, and canning. Mrs. Hermes often volunteered at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was a member of St. Anne’s Society at St. Peter’s.
Survivors include: daughter Sherry Betts and husband Rodney of Amarillo; daughter Kathy Hermes of Ruidoso, NM; daughter Della Hermes of Ruidoso, NM; daughter Joyce Hermes of San Antonio; son Carl Hermes and wife Beny of Flower Mound; daughter Linda Nortman and husband Danny of Lindsay; son Glenn Hermes and wife Mary of Azle; grandchildren: Geoffrey Betts and wife Emily, Elissa Allison and husband Tanyan, Abigail Betts, Jacob Betts, Nathan Betts, Elena Jaramillo, Nicholas Hermes, Christina Hermes, Amy Holcomb and husband Adam, Amber McDonough and husband Joe, Katie Alaniz and husband Seve, and Tiffany Key and husband James; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Aileen Knabe of Muenster; brother Wilfred Koelzer of Keller; sister Veronica Jones of Madill, OK; brother Norman Koelzer of Muenster; sister Dolores Hermes of Woodbine; brother Melvin Koelzer and wife Bobbie of Muenster; sister-in-law Emilia Voth of Gainesville; sister-in-law Angela Haverkamp of Lindsay; sister-in-law Rita Corcoran of Gainesville; brother-in-law Gilbert Hermes of Lindsay; and sister-in-law Wanda Hermes of Lindsay.
Mrs. Hermes was preceded in death by: husband Joseph Frank “Joe” Hermes; parents Peter F. and Gertrude T. (Sicking) Koelzer; 1 brother; and 19 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. A Rosary Prayer Service, with visitation to follow, will begin at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, August 22, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

The family extends many thanks to the wonderful staff at Wesley House and Ardent Hospice who provided such loving care to Mom during her time there.
