Alvin Thomas went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 3:02 PM after a lengthy illness with heart failure. He was surrounded by his family and close friends at the time of death.
Alvin was a long-time employee for the city of Gainesville, working in the water/waste department. He worked the night shift, and told stories of night crawlers and the black panther that came to see him during his shift.
He shared his love for cars, like his father, who owned and operated an auto parts store. He enjoyed working with model cars, and loved to watch car racing and dirt track racing.
Alvin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Muenster.
He leaves behind sons Allen Thomas, and Robert Thomas; nieces Pam Thomas, and Sarah Clure; nephew Jerry Hellinger; and brother-in-law Mike Hellinger, all of Gainesville; sister-in-law Christy Hall and her husband Robert of OK.; cousin Wanda Greene; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence W. Thomas and Ettie Mae (Huneycutt) Thomas; sister Patsy Ann Hellinger; aunts Grace Juanita Trammell, Lilly Ross, Pearl Lambert, Parthena Martin, Marie Moore, and Rose Estes; uncles John Huneycutt, and Clare Huneycutt.
Graveside services are set for 2:00 PM Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Cooke County with Bro. Ralph Gourley officiating under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. No visitation services are planned.
