Angie Byers

August 11, 1954 — September 2, 2018

Angela (Angie) Sue Byers, 64, of Gainesville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 2, 2018.  She was loved dearly by her family and the vast number of people that her life and love touched.  She will be deeply missed, until we meet again on the other side of Glory.

Angie was born August 11, 1954 in Sherman to James and Imogene Turpen.  She married the love of her life, Dennis Byers, and later became the devoted mother to their two sons, Scottie and J.R.  Angie worked as a loan officer for 25 years at Security Bank in Whitesboro, where she grew up.  She devoted the remaining 24 years of her life to serving in the ministry at River Alive at The Church of Jesus Christ in Gainesville, where she later moved.  During this time, she held multiple key positions at her church including secretary, treasurer, board member, and for over seven years, was committed to tutoring youth at their private school.  Her many students adored her.  Her most notable role was being the church pianist.  Angie was a remarkable self-taught musician who became known to hundreds as “Sister Angie.”  Her angelic worship and big hugs touched the lives of so many.

If there were only one word that could be used to describe Angie, that word would be Faithful.  She was faithful to her Savior.  She was faithful to her husband of 41 years.  She was a faithful mother and grandmother.  She was faithful to her church and all her spiritual family and friends, wherever they were.  No matter what the gathering was, Sister Angie was going to be there ready to serve, play the keyboard, and probably bring some of her famous banana pudding.  Her sweet spirit and legacy of faithfulness will live on in her family, and the multitude of lives that she impacted.

Survivors include: husband Dennis Byers of Gainesville; son Scottie Lee Byers of Gainesville; son J.R. Byers and wife Kelley of Era; mother Imogene Turpen; sister Sandra Everett of Whitesboro; sister Gayla Grant and husband Wayne of Bogalusa, LA; sister Deanna Singleton and husband Greg of Murphy; brother Jimmy Turpen and wife Julie of Gainesville; sister Loretta Lambert of Whitesboro; six beloved grandchildren; and two beloved great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Byers was preceded in death by: brother Larry Dale Turpen; and father James Woodrow Turpen.

Visitation is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 6 at Geo. J.
