Ann Adel (Herr) Bengfort was born August 11, 1931 in Hereford, TX. She was the daughter of John F. and Ursula S. (Koelzer) Herr. Her family moved to Muenster when she was a child. The Herrs were a large family and their home was filled with love and laughter and light.
The first time my Dad saw her was at a high school football game, the Lindsay Knights against Sacred Heart in Muenster. He looked at his Dad and said “That’s the woman I’m going to marry!” And by golly, he did! And even though he really wasn’t all that wild about dancing, he knew that the woman he loved was! And he was her favorite partner. On February 20, 1950, Ann married Leonard Joseph Bengfort. She and her sister, Jean, shared their wedding day with each other, Grandpa insisting he wasn’t ready to pay for two weddings! My Grandmother made both wedding dresses and her daughters were beautiful in them. Our parents made their home on the farm north of Lindsay, TX and practiced their Catholic faith at St. Peter’s in Lindsay.
Along with raising 6 children, Ann worked as a nurse’s aide at Gainesville Memorial Hospital. Years later she made an attempt at retirement but decided to go back to work when Pete Robinson at Joe Walter Lumber Co. offered to relieve her of her boredom with a position there. She loved it. Mom and Dad loved to travel, going to many places in this country and around the world. She rarely missed a game of chicken foot with her Ladies! They all enjoyed each other so much.
Ann’s sense of humor, of adventure, of family, of faith, carried her on a beautiful path in her life. She has been a bright spirit in all our lives and we will miss her always. Mom has moved into the hands of the Holy Spirit. And she is surrounded by all those who’ve gone before her, she is embraced in love; as she was when she was here with us. And we will hold our love for her always.
Ann joins those who’ve gone before her, husband Leonard; parents John and Ursula; infant son John; daughter Susan Cason; son-in-law Steven Robinson; granddaughter Ann Cheaney; Joe and Elizabeth Bengfort her father and mother-in-law; sisters Jean and husband Bill Brown, Therese Pettigrew, Alma (Bunny) Marr.
