A graveside service for Betty Jane Malaise, 99, longtime resident of Odessa and Lake Kiowa, most recently of Lubbock, is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 PM on Friday, January 4 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Malaise passed away December 29, 2018 in Lubbock.
Betty was born March 8, 1919 in Sanger, TX to Acquillis Q. and Ethel (Ready) Rector. She married John William Malaise on November 26, 1941. Their marriage produced three children, to whom she was a very loving mother. Mrs. Malaise taught elementary school for 34 years in Odessa and loved her career and the children she taught. As a resident of Lake Kiowa from 1983 to 2005, she was a member of the Lake Kiowa Women’s Association and loved to play golf, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Mrs. Malaise was a remarkable Christian woman who loved her family and the Lord. She loved reading her Bible, attending bible studies and her church family at Temple Baptist Church in Gainesville. Mrs. Malaise also loved to watch athletic events and was an avid fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys. Most recently, she enjoyed playing bingo, working jigsaws puzzles, and doing arts and crafts with coloring books and stickers.
Survivors include: daughter Liddie Malaise of Lubbock; son John William “Dub” Malaise Jr. and wife Gail of McKinney; son Dan Malaise of Lubbock; grandchildren: Todd Malaise, Resa Rottino, and Chris McIntosh; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Malaise was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; brother Bill Rector; sister Alice Maurice Rector; and sister Ethlyn Amyx.
