Betty Katherine Monroe Martinez, joined Jesus in heaven on April 30, 2022 in Denton, Texas.
Betty was born on March 16, 1935 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Gordy and Katherine Thrash. She graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas in 1953 and attended SMU and UNM. In 1953, she went to work at Southwestern Bell and was transferred to Mountain Bell in 1960 in Albuquerque, NM, where she was honored to become the first woman service foreman in New Mexico. She retired from Mountain Bell and US West in 1987 after 34 years of service.
Betty served with the Telephone Pioneers, Board of Directors for Telephone Retirees, served on the supervisory committee for First Financial Credit Union, and volunteered 25 years for Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. She also served as a volunteer at Stanford House in Gainesville, Texas, and other various organizations. Betty was a member of Neitherwood Church of Christ of Albuquerque, NM for over 50 years and was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ of Gainesville, TX in her later years. Betty was an amazing artist, loving landscape and mountain scenes. She always said that “God was good to her all of her life and she was grateful for all the moments she had”.
Betty is survived by her 3 children, Kathi Kirby Husereau and husband, Stephen, Nick Monroe and wife, Teri of Denton and Cindy Monroe of Albuquerque, NM, and handpicked children, Vivian and Allen Ngyen, and Kristy Tinker, all of Albuquerque, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many loved and cherished friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Paul Martinez, her brother Bobby Gordy Thrash and parents Gordy Addison and Katherine Wilhite Thrash.
Services will be held at Hillcrest Church of Christ, 1712 O’Neil, Gainesville, TX, on Saturday, May 7, 2022. The family will receive friends at 9:00 A.M. and the funeral will begin at 10:00 A.M. She will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers include, family members, Chris Monroe, Michael Gay, Haiden Monroe, Joey Nations, Andy Rogers, Stephen Husereau, Houston Tipps and Landon Tipps.
Memorial contributions may be made to “Hope for HH”, 2497 N. Fountainhead Way, Eagle, ID, 83616, in honor of her great-grandson Landon Tipps.
