William Joseph “Bill” Schmitz Jr., 77, of Corinth, TX, passed away January 29, 2024 in Denton, TX.
Bill was born February 19, 1946 in Gainesville, TX. He was raised in Lindsay, TX and graduated from high school there. Mr. Schmitz joined the U.S. Air Force in January of 1965 in Dallas, TX and was discharged in February of 1986 at Eglin AFB, FL. During his 21 years of service, he was stationed in Guam, Thailand, Okinawa, and Korea. Following his military service, Mr. Schmitz entered the restaurant business, operating Billy & MunCha’s in Lindsay, The Smokehouse in Lewisville, Amigo’s Café in Gainesville, The Silver Spur Nightclub in Lindsay, and The Smokehouse in Gainesville. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, traveling in his RV, attending family gatherings, and listening to country music. Mr. Schmitz’s outgoing personality meant he never met a stranger and was often the life of the party. He was a loving husband, caring dad, hard-working man, and generous to a fault. He will be missed.
Survived by: wife MunCha Schmitz of Corinth; daughter Shirley Schmitz Dieter and husband Pat of Gainesville; daughter Janis Marie Schmitz of Corinth; grandchildren Rachael Dieter, Sarah Dieter, Andrew Fryar, Matthew Schmitz, and James Schmitz Marzioli; sister Maxine Sandmann and husband Paul of Lindsay; sister Pattie Hubik and husband Wesley of Mesquite; brother-in-law Edward Sandmann of Lindsay; brother-in-law Irby Macready of Lindsay; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Predeceased by: parents William and Cecilia (Wiese) Schmitz; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Burnelle Schmitz; sister Aileen Sandmann; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Dale Crabtree; sister Carolyn Macready; and several nieces and nephews.
A Rosary service, followed by visitation, is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lindsay. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lindsay.
Memorial contributions may be made to a cancer research organization of one’s choosing.
