Robert F. “Bob” Blessing, Jr., 77, of Gainesville, passed away October 10, 2021, in Gainesville.
Bob was born August 8, 1944 in Dayton, OH. He graduated from Gainesville High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from North Texas State University. Mr. Blessing married Betty Haverkamp on January 14, 1967 in Gainesville. He served in the U.S. Airforce from 1965 to 1972, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. The Blessings settled in Granbury, TX and Mr. Blessing had a successful career as Human Resources Director of Hood County. He retired to Gainesville in 2017.
Mr. Blessing was an avid golfer and loved to go on drives in his golf cart. He loved his family dearly. The Blessings enjoyed hosting family gatherings, often cooking on the grill and ensuring everyone enjoyed themselves. Mr. Blessing’s laughter and conversation were comforting to all that knew him.
Mr. Blessing was preceded in death by: parents Robert F. and Rosemary (Woodall) Blessing, Sr.; brother-in-law, Frank Haverkamp; and brother-in-law, Michael Neu.
Survivors include: wife, Betty Blessing of Gainesville; daughter, Laurie McCoy and husband, Shawn of Granbury; son, Kevin Blessing and wife, Kristen of Delaware, OH; grandchildren: Cole Blessing, Dillon Graham, Stevie McCoy, and Emily Blessing; brother, Gerald Blessing and wife, Gail of Plano; brother, Brian Blessing and wife, Sherry of Keller; sister-in-law, Angela Haverkamp of Lindsay; brother-in-law, Ray Haverkamp and wife, Louise of Lindsay; brother-in-law, Richard Haverkamp and wife, Barbara of Lindsay; sister-in-law, Clara Mae Taylor of Lindsay; sister-in-law, Alma Bierschenk and husband, Bob of Midwest City, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
A Rosary Service will begin at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. John Pacheco officiating.
