Robert (Bob) Harland Cheatham passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on October 11, 2024, in Gainesville, Texas.

Bob was born November 8, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas to John Ross and Lorene (Casteel) Cheatham. He spent his early years in Fort Worth where he enjoyed the outdoors, Boy Scouts and being an active member of the ROTC. He began working at the age of 11, running the neighborhood paper route, and then worked at the local snow cone stand. Until his very last days he could still recite all the flavors of his snow cone stand. Bob graduated from Pascal High School in 1963 and then attended the University of Texas at Arlington, before being drafted to the U.S. Army in 1966. Bob spent the next three years as a Pershing Missile Specialist in Munich, Germany during the Vietnam War.

After returning home, Bob began his career in the motor freight business. Through a co-worker he met the love of his life on a blind date at his lake house on Cedar Creek Lake. Bob married Melinda Mitchell 30 days later in Dallas, Texas. He continued his career in the freight industry where he swerved as terminal manager and sales manager for ICX transportation. He went on to finish his career in sales at Yellow Freight trucking Company in 1985.

Bob spent the last 40 years with his family in the North Texas area where he enjoyed spending his time on horseback, motorcycle, or in a boat at Moss Lake. Bob served on many local committees and various boards in the community over the years. He volunteered and served as President of the Boys and Girls Club of Cooke County, and was active in the Gainesville Antique Car Club. He was also always an involved, active member of his church. The organization closest to his heart was Summer Events for Exceptional Kampers (SEEK CAMP), where he spent every summer with his family for over 30 years serving children with all types of special needs. Bob had a sincere love for his family, but nothing compared to his love for his grandchildren, Crosby and Ainsley.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father and Russian daughter, Nina Franciocci. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Mitchell Cheatham, daughter Cory Corbin and husband Clint of Lantana, daughter Chaney Fisher and husband Bobby of Callisburg, daughter Leslie Morrison and husband Nicola of San Antonio, grandchildren Crosby Corbin, Ainsley Cheatham, Molly Fisher and Jake Fisher, his brother Larry Cheatham and wife Sharon of Benbrook, niece Ashley Quain and nephews Chad Cheatham and Jason Cheatham.

The family would like to acknowledge his wonderful caregivers, Cindy Hernandez, Hunter Stephens, Tonya Skinner and Logan Cantrell, who took such great care of him over the last years of his life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. Visitation will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 6:00-7:30 PM.
