Bob G. Davis

March 4, 1931 — September 28, 2018

A celebration of life and funeral services for Bob G. Davis, Chief Warrant Officer, CWO-3, US Navy Ret. and of Lake Kiowa, TX, will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Ricky Patterson and Scott Sides officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.  A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Bob passed from his earthly home September 28, 2018 in Gainesville.  He was born March 4, 1931 in Woodbine to Joseph P. and Gladys Ward Davis.  He attended Gainesville schools, graduating in 1950, then joining the US Navy with eleven other classmates upon the outbreak of the Korean War.

Bob and Lila Beth Flowers were joined together in marriage on March 21, 1953, lasting nearly 66 years.

The Davis’s were blessed with four precious children, Robert Davis, Rene’ Ortowski, Ronna Payne, and Rorry Davis.  Eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren have been added to the family.

Having served twenty-five years in the Navy, Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War, plus being awarded many medals and awards, Bob retired in 1974.

Bob, nicknamed “Dugan”, continued his college education after the service.  Having earned a degree from Georgia Military College, he also attended school in Kingsville, TX, Gainesville College (NCTC), and North Texas State (UNT).

Bob worked for National Supply, KGAF Radio, and Texas Workforce.  He also served on several local boards and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and VFW.  His most treasured role was serving as an Elder at the Church of Christ in Collinsville.

Music was also his passion, playing the guitar and singing country gospel.  Cattle ranching and golfing were also a large part of his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Howard, Bert, and Joe P.; his sister Joyce.

Bob is survived by his wife Lila Beth; four children Rob, Rene’, Ronna, and Rorry; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers for the service are Jarred and Jordan Turbeville, Derek Davis, Chris Payne, Rick Payne, and Frank Ortowski.  Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Hellman, Lester Haney, and Jace Turbeville.
