Funeral services for Bobby Carroll Morris, 81, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Gainesville with Dr. Jeff Langley officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Arrangements are under the care of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mr. Morris passed away June 11, 2019 in Denton.
Bob was born on the snowy day of April 7, 1938 in Gainesville to R.L. “General” and Letha “Trixie” (Reeves) Morris. He attended schools in Muenster and Hayes, and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1956. During school, Bob excelled in baseball and football, and spent countless hours at lake Texoma with family and friends where he enjoyed skiing. He then attended North Texas State University, receiving Bachelors and Masters degrees. Mr. Morris married Helen Beattie at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gainesville on August 7, 1959. The couple moved to Odessa where Mr. Morris worked as a teacher, coach, administrator, and coordinator for Ector County I.S.D. for over 30 years. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and spending more time in his life-long passion of golf. Mr. Morris will be remembered as a vivid story-teller, avid golfer, loving husband, father, and grandfather, and for his favorite words of encouragement: “I’m so proud of you.”
Survivors include: wife Helen Beattie Morris of Gainesville; son Rob Morris and wife Becky of Odessa; son James Morris of Odessa; daughter Carla Morris Mitter of Fort Worth; grandchildren: Bryson Morris and wife Mary of Odessa, Jamie Eacho and husband Bradley of Highland Village, Amanda and Luke Mitter of Fort Worth, Ryan Truby of Boston, MA, Matt Truby of Little Elm; great-grandchildren: Braxton and Demi Morris of Odessa, Kade and Berkley Eacho of Highland Village; brother Eddie Morris and wife Patsy of Gainesville; and many beloved golfing partners.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents.
