William Robert “Bob” Smelcer, 89, of Gainesville, TX, passed away July 2, 2024 in Gainesville.
Bob was born June 14, 1935 in Amarillo, TX. He was raised and graduated from high school in Amarillo. He then attended college at West Texas State University where he played baseball. Bob served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood. He married Jean Farr on October 9, 1960 in Gainesville. Mr. Smelcer’s longest career was as an accountant for Sinton Dairies in Colorado Springs, CO. He continued as a business owner with Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at the Gainesville Outlet Shops and with Transcon Tire Shop in Gainesville. Mr. Smelcer was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gainesville and frequently volunteered at Second Time Around.
Survivors include: wife Jean Farr Smelcer of Gainesville; daughter Kimberly Bell and husband Ray of Lindsay; son Bryan Smelcer and wife Rosie of Decatur; grandchildren: William Bell and wife Genesis, Jonathon Bell, Daniel Bell, Zachary Bell, Sam Bell, Alex Smelcer and wife Tara, Steven Smelcer and wife Kier, Eric Smelcer, and Michael Smelcer and wife Ryleigh; great-grandchildren Chloe and Darcy; and sister-in-law Judy Smelcer of Amarillo.
Mr. Smelcer was preceded in death by: parents William and Golda (Cook) Smelcer; daughter Debbie Poore; sister Nina Schmidt; sister Lynn Roberts; and brother Jim Smelcer.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at First United Methodist Church of Gainesville. You may register your condolences online at www.geojcarroll.com.
