Bobbie Jean Terry Surratt

Bobbie Surratt, 94, passed away on September 10, 2024, in Gainesville, Texas. Bobbie was born in Ida, Louisiana, to Henry and Mattie Terry on October 9, 1929. She grew up in Vivian, Louisiana, and graduated from Vivian High School in 1946. She then attended Meadows Draughon Business College in Shreveport, Louisiana, graduating in 1947. Her first job after business college was as a secretary at Stanford Oil & Gas in Pine Island, Louisiana, where she worked for three years.

In January 1949, Bobbie married Jewell Dean (J.D.) Surratt. Their son Michael was born in 1950. The family moved to Gainesville in 1955. Bobbie worked for the Gainesville ISD school tax office for three years and then transferred to the GISD administration office as secretary to the Superintendent(s), a position she held for twenty-nine years. Bobbie was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville.

Bobbie is survived by her brother Jerry Terry and partner Sandra Johnson; granddaughters Teri Soldavini, Gina Thurman, Crystal Tuggle; grandson Toby Surratt; six great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters and 2 great-great grandchildren; daughter in law Jacquetta Surratt; and several nieces & nephews.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 42 years J.D. Surratt, son Michael J. Surratt, great-granddaughter Julie Thurman, brother Bill Terry, sister-in-law Mary Lynn Terry, nephew Russell "Rusty" Terry & grandson-in-law Joseph (Joe) Thurman.

Burial under the direction of George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home was at Fairview Cemetery. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
