C L Williams

December 10, 1925 — November 11, 2020

C L Williams of Myra passed into eternity at Muenster Hospital on November 11, 2020.  It is fitting that he passed on Veterans’ Day, as one of “The Greatest Generation” proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and despite fighting in some of the fiercest action in that arena he returned home, as he liked to say, “without a scratch.”  Yet it was C L’s love of, and devotion to his wife of 70 years, Bettye, and his daughter, Sharon, that best defined him.

Mr. Williams was born in Montague County on December 10, 1925.  He married Bettye Ruth Lucore in St. Jo, Texas on October 9, 1950.  The couple resided in Cooke County their entire married life, and C L served as Postmaster in Myra until he retired in 1990.  He and Bettye owned and operated Williams Myra Store for 18 years until 1988.

C L was a 32rd degree Mason, member of Myra Lodge 878, and served his lodge in a variety of leadership capacities for more than 50 years.  He was also very active in community service, serving as an officer and member of Myra Improvement Club, Myra Volunteer Fire Department, and Myra Reed Cemetery Association.  His integrity, leadership, common sense, and “can do” attitude made him the one in the family and community about whom all would say, “Ask C L how to do it.”

The couple enjoyed square dancing and met and kept many friends across Texas and Oklahoma as they pursued this hobby.  Indeed, it is difficult to imagine a more devoted couple, who took their marriage vows so seriously.  The devotion shown to one another and to their daughter and to their extended family is legendary.  C L was one of the best of a great generation, and to all who knew and loved him he will always be the exemplary role model and hero, the very definition of honor, ethics, integrity, duty, and service to others.

C L is survived by his devoted wife Bettye; daughter Sharon Williams Cook and her husband Bobby of Alvin, Texas; three grandchildren Corey, Chris, and Jessica; five great-grandchildren; sisters Billie Huchton and Joyce Bell; brother Lynn Williams; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 16, 2020 in the Reed Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Sconce officiating.
