Carl Mims

Carl Mims, 57, of Gainesville, passed away April 5, 2023 in Gainesville.

Carl was born October 28, 1965 in Linden, TX.  He was raised in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High school.  Mr. Mims played football for Sam Houston State University and was drafted by the Washington Redskins.  He also played for the Buffalo Bills.  Mr. Mims worked for Peterbilt in Denton for 30 years.  He was a die-hard Lakers fan and loved Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.  Mr. Mims enjoyed debating sports and treasured his moments spent around grandchildren.  He was a devoted member of MLK Church of Christ in Gainesville.

Survivors include: wife Kelly Mims of Gainesville; son Kyle Searcy (Aimee) of Gainesville; son L.J. Searcy (Jennifer) of Gainesville; son Carley Mims (Holly) of Little Elm; daughter Baylee Mims (Robert) of Gainesville; grandchildren: Gray, Ky, Konner, Karter, Ellie, Carlton, C.J., Amerie, and Houston; sister Karen Mims of Decatur; sister Michelle Mims (Billy) of Gainesville; sister Rhonda Bruce (Allen) of Gainesville; sister Danielle l (Ronnie) of Gainesville; sister Angela Thomas of Gainesville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mims was preceded in death by: son Carlton Mims; parents Charles and Leola (Whetstone) Mims; and sister Melanie Felton.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 8, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 10, at Hillcrest Church of Christ.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
