Carl Strauss

A graveside service with military honors for Carl F. Strauss, Jr., 94+, “Uncle Bud”, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 24, 2019, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Robert Kelley officiating.  The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:30 PM on Sunday, November 24, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Strauss passed away November 17, 2019 in Denton.

Carl was born July 1, 1925 in Gainesville to Carl Sebastian and Ida Freda (Jagelky) Strauss.  He attended Gainesville schools and was a third-generation Cooke County farmer and rancher, raising Polled Herefords.  He served in the U.S. Army, 5 ^th Airborne Division, 1924th Quartermaster Truck Company, during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Corporal.  When asked what he did in the Army, Mr. Strauss would say, “Pushing 15 boys in the motor pool.”  He enjoyed educating people about the weather, playing dominos, going to rodeos, watching the Von Erichs on Saturday Night Wrestling, and spending time with his beloved family and friends.

Survivors include: niece Anna Jones of Gainesville; nephew Stephen Harlow; great-nieces and nephews: Brent Jones and wife Pamela, Julie Fagan and husband Scottie, Laura Williams and husband Ricky, Jack Roach, and Tracey Roach; great-great-nieces and nephews: Taylor and Trevor Young, Kaden and Ethan Williams, and Abigayle and Autumn Roach; numerous friends; and the loving and caring staff at Wesley House.

Mr. Strauss was preceded in death by: his parents; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Claude Roach; sister Nita Harlow; sister Lucy Strauss; niece Ida Lee Bright; and nephew Carl Jack Roach, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
