Carla Dea (Haines) Waters, 67, was called home by our Heavenly Father on January 10,2019 after a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer.
A celebration of life service will be held on January 26th at 1:00pm in First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CASA of North Texas 315 E California Street, Gainesville, TX 76240.
Carla Dea Haines was born on February 21, 1951 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Clifford H. & Mildred H. Haines. The family moved to Gainesville in 1955.
She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1969 where she was active in choir. In 1971 she graduated from Cooke County Jr College and in 1973 she graduated from the University of Texas, Arlington with a BA in Psychology.
Carla married Charles R. Waters II in 1972 in Gainesville, TX at First Presbyterian church. In May of 1973 Carla joined Charlie in Barbers Point, Hawaii NAS where she started her career as a 5-year navy wife. Eventually they settled in Gainesville with their daughter Jennifer in 1980.
She was an active participant in all her daughters’ extracurricular activities, and for many years, a member of Business and Professional Women Inc. where she was Woman of the Year for Texas and served one term as District Director. Carla was a member of Cooke County Chorale and travelled all over the world singing with them.
Since childhood, Carla had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a church elder and active member of the choir.
One of her greatest joys was her involvement with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of North Texas. She was a volunteer and then board member for 12 years. Carla was the first ever Board Member of the Year for North Texas. To her, there was no cause more worth fighting, than the fight for the welfare of children.
After 23 years, Carla retired from Edward Jones as a Senior Branch Office Administrator and limited partner.
Carla was always singing and was passionate about music her entire life. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and learning as much as she could about all types of plants. She loved to cook with her daughter and son-in-law, especially when it brought together the family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford H. & Mildred H. Haines, and nephew Jeff Fitzgerald.
