Clara Schmitz was born on March 19,1930 in Muenster, TX to Joseph and Theresa (Bayer) Mages. Clara died on January 4, 2024 in Cedar Hill, TX.
The Mages family lived on a farm in Muenster. Her siblings were Edger Mages, Louise Schmidlkofer, Norbert Mages, Pauline Pelzel, Albina Schmitz, Hank Dieter and Chubby (Reiter) Voth. The children attended school in Muenster and helped work on the farm. In 1944 their mother died and at the age of 14 Clara quit school and took on the responsibilities of household management and mother to the younger children.
Clara married Harold Schmitz on June 23, 1949. His parents were Theodore and Pauline (Leorwald) Schmitz. They made their home in Lindsay and had 4 children, Romona, Carla, Doug and Greg. Clara worked at many places as a waitress including The Curtwood, Colonial Restaurant, Turner Hotel Coffee Shop, Country Inn, Delta Queen, Bon Appetit, and she and Harold owned and operated Club 60.
In 1968 Harold suffered a major stroke. Clara worked, took care of the children and was caregiver to her husband for 45 years. She loved working in her yard, baking and being a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also loved to read and sometimes would read a book in 1-2 days. She prayed daily and we believe this scripture is perfect for her "Well done, thou good and faithful servant. You were faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord" Mathew 25:21. We will always love and remember our dear mother.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers (Edgar and Norbert), 3 sisters, (Polly and husband Gene, Louise and husband George, Albina and Johnny), her parents-in-law, sisters-in-law Louise Horn and husband Jake, Sis Klement and husband Tony, brothers-in-law Lawrence Schmitz and wife Mary, Pat and wife Mary, Eugene and wife Lavita and Francis and wife Katy, nieces and nephews Kenny, Jimmy, Patsy and Robert Schmidlkofer, Tre Morris, Pat, Roy, and Jimmy Klement, Janet Fisher, Doris Shick, Brad and Darrel Dieter, Carman Crowsey, Mark Schmitz, Paula Lewis, infant son Greg Schmitz, and son-in-law Steve Grahl.
