David Wayne Hamilton

July 28, 1950 — October 21, 2018

David Wayne Hamilton, 68, of Gainesville Texas passed to his eternal peace Sunday October 21st at Texoma Medical Center in Denison Texas after a courageous battle with cancer.

The first son of Edward Davis (Jr.) Hamilton and Lola Fay (Shelton) Hamilton, David was born July 28th, 1950 in Nocona Texas to begin his life in Nocona schools and with various north Texas occupations before entering the United States Army to serve his country for a period of twenty years around the world.  David and his family were stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton Oklahoma., Hawaii and Germany before his military retirement in 1994.  David then continued his dedicated service to former veterans in need at the VA Hospital in Bonham Texas for an additional fifteen years until completing his working career.

David was a loving father, grandfather and uncle who enjoyed traveling, hunting and spending time with his family. He was known for being supportive when necessary, but still enjoyed a practical joke when he had the opportunity to make someone laugh.  He will be remembered for his devotion and special sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife Tammy of Gainesville; daughter Dania Hamilton and husband Ricky James of Woodbine; step-daughter Jen Muniz and husband Michael of Oklahoma; step-son Jeff Becker of Denton; grandchildren Ian Simpson, Nico Simpson, Jeremy Peiper, Rocky Peiper, Madison Torres, Azra Muniz, Nolan Muniz, Grayson Muniz, Zero Becker and Leon Becker along with six great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are brother Bobby Hamilton and wife Vicky of Walnut Bend; sister Linda Ballinger and husband Rick of Callisburg and numerous nieces and nephews who were greatly loved by him.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his son David Wayne (Bubba) Hamilton Jr; Stepfather Robert “Bob” Phelan; and his Grandparents.

After cremation a private memorial service will be scheduled to honor David’s life and influence to all who knew him.
