David G. Porter

David G. Porter, 66, of Gainesville, passed away January 27, 2023 in Gainesville.

David was born March 25, 1956 in Gainesville.  He attended Gainesville schools and graduated in 1974.  He attended Tarleton State University, but he missed home and moved back to Gainesville as soon as he could.  David married Sidney Rippy and they had three daughters.  He worked for Tony’s Feed & Seed, Joe Siegmund, operated his own welding company, David Porter Welding, and spent the last 30 years with Lonestar Transportation.  David married Kelly Powers in 2008.  They enjoyed watching Westerns and tending to their land.  He loved farming, gardening, and hunting.

David was preceded in death by his parents Hugh Murphy Porter and Marcia Florence (Hemphill) Porter.

Survivors include: wife Kelly Powers of Gainesville; brother Les Porter and wife Brenda of Denton; brother Paul Porter of Farmers Branch; brother Joe Hemphill of The Woodlands; daughter Denise Hannesschlager and husband Mike of Springfield, VA; daughter Sarita Cleveland and husband Kevin of Gainesville; daughter Ally Asaff and husband Eric of Hurst; grandchildren Avery, Noelle, William, Marcus, Emalee, Nova, Alex, Eli, Emily, Makayla, Kenny, and Zander.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 6, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:00 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, in the funeral home chapel.
