Deborah Kay Saunier

July 26, 1949 — October 7, 2022

To all of Debbie’s family and friends:

Deborah Kay Saunier, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and friend to countless people all over the world, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, October 7th, 2022, at Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, TX.

She will be remembered as a brilliant, beautiful, generous woman, with a love for travel, family, and friends.  She never met a stranger. She was charming, funny and gracious. She loved to laugh and her smile lit up a room everywhere she went. To say that she will be missed is an understatement.  Our lives will never be the same.

Always the social butterfly, she loved to host parties at her house, and attended multiple parties and balls with the State Department at diplomatic functions.

Her love of travel was satisfied by her assignments with the State Department.  She established a network of friends during her time in Italy, South Africa, Japan, Afghanistan, Mexico, Brazil, and other mid and south American countries.  During her 30 years with the State Department she met George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Walter Cronkite, Colin Powell, and other dignitaries.

After retiring from the State Department, she moved to a little house on the bay in San Leon, TX.  After spending a few years there, she moved back to Whitesboro, TX to help care for her father.  She was a devoted daughter and loved her family.  After the loss of her father, she moved to Dallas, where she remained until her passing. Her house reflects her travels and is filled with her memories and love of family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Betty, she is survived by her brother, Clete Saunier; her daughter Esther Sharp; granddaughter, Kathleen Atchley; great-grandson, River Atchley; nieces, Jenna Saunier, Jacquelyn Saunier and Cathryn Saunier; nephew, CJ Saunier; great-niece, Arya Saunier; and a host of beloved family and friends.

Her memories will live on with the family and friends that knew and loved her and she will never be forgotten.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  These are both organizations that were very important to her.  The links are provided below.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at her house in Dallas.  The information for that will be posted as soon as the date is finalized.

Please feel free to comment below with any memories or photos you might have of Debbie.  We would love to hear from all the people that knew and loved her, and whose lives she touched.  Thank you all so much for being a part of her life. We know she loved each and every one of you.
