Delbert Jack Dyer

Funeral services for Delbert Jack Dyer, 87, of Gainesville, are set for 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bennie Slack officiating and Dr. Jeff Langley assisting. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour before the service at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church.

Jack was born on April 6, 1932 near Burns City, Texas to Cecil Burch Dyer and Velma Levina (Parsons) Dyer. He passed away on October 12, 2019 in Gainesville.

Jack joined the U.S. Navy in 1952. It was during the Korean War. He spent one year in Japan and the remainder of his four years on the aircraft carrier, Coral Sea. He was a Gunner's Mate and Helmsman. Jack also spent two years in the National Guard. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1956.

While in the Navy, Jack married Jeannene Blakey at the First Baptist Church in Valley View on December 24, 1954. After Jack was discharged, he held several jobs in the Gainesville area where they lived until 1960. Jack went to work for the Farmers Branch Fire Department in 1960 where spent the next 31 years. He held every position in the fire department, including Fire Chief for the last eleven years.

Jack is survived by his wife Jeannene of Gainesville; son Steve Dyer and his wife Linda; son Mike Dyer; son Chris Dyer and his wife Marcie; grandchildren Andrew Dyer, Austin Dyer, Christopher Dyer and his wife Jessica; Jamie Westbrook and her husband Christopher, Auburn Thompson and her husband Jesse, Whitney Walker and her husband Jake, and Faith Dyer; great-grandchildren Jonah Thompson, Jett Thompson, Brodee Walker, Sydnie Moss, Carolina Westbrook, Autumn Dyer, Joslyn Westbrook, and Ryan Westbrook; brother Gene Dyer and his wife Sherian; sister Darlene Sessions; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert Dyer; brother Jimmy Dyer; sister-in-law Shirley Dyer; daughter-in-law Desiree Dyer; and grandson Cozmoe Dyer.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gainesville.

The family wants to thank Renaissance Care Center and Solaris Hospice for the excellent care Jack received during his illness.
