Dennis King was born on August 18, 1952, to Linford and Mary King of Clarksville, Texas.  His family moved to Gainesville in 1953, where his dad opened King’s Garage on Culberson Street several years later.  In his early childhood, his fondest memories were grape bubble gum, and he always spoke of his favorite people, his six brothers and two sisters.

Raised to go to church, whether you wanted to or not, Dennis became a devoted servant to God, Church, and helping others.  This was evident, not only in his ministry as a Pastor of the House of Prayer, but for many years as founder and owner of King’s Appliance Service for over 40 years.

Dennis King’s other accomplishments included: An Appliance Repair Service, and Appliance Store, Technical School, and King’s Heating and Air Conditioning.  One of his favorite stories was that on his wedding day, a widow called in desperate need of air-conditioning on that hot July day – he fixed her air-conditioner and arrived 20 minutes before his wedding!  That was his life until the end, thinking of others.  His love for children was heard in nearly every service with the words, “don’t mess with my little friends,” and then he would call them all by name.  His next statement generally would be to the adults, “Sorry, Adults, your time will come later”, and their time never came!

Dennis attended Gainesville schools, Robert E. Lee, Franklin, Gainesville Middle, and graduated in 1970 from Gainesville High School.  In his high school years, he was hired at Bohl’s Furniture Store and later opened his own repair business.  Dennis King completed several Technical Schools in his career.  He was always fulfilling a dream he had.

Perhaps, Dennis King’s greatest gift was his love and compassion for music.  He was an excellent guitar and steel guitar plater to perform with.  His music caused people to listen to your song.  He was always teaching someone else how to play or how to play better.  Just like his knowledge of appliances, Dennis taught many how to play and love the guitar.  He was one of the original singers on the House of Prayer radio broadcast every Sunday morning from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. for over 50 years.  His song was the first on the list.  He loved to sing the songs of God.  His life story will forever continue, for he left behind a legacy.

Rev. King is survived by: wife of 45 years, and his co-pastor of House of Prayer, Judy King; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janis and Steven Thompson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tim and Leah Logan; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary and Karen King, Rick and Cindy King, Tommy and Rene King, Paul and Tonya King, and Mark and Lynde King; sister Martha Meals; brother Stephen King; sister and brother-in-law Christi and Ty Rickman; and 22 nieces and nephews.
