Dolores (Dee) Grace Henningson

July 14, 1933 — March 9, 2024

Dolores (Dee) Grace Henningson, 90, of Gainesville, died at home, peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on March 9, 2024.

Dee was born in Enid, Oklahoma on July 14, 1933, to Jane and Howard Belk.  In 1951, she graduated from High School in Big Spring.  In 1954, she went on to graduate from Hendrick School of Nursing in Abilene.  Following her graduation, she returned to Big Spring where she met the love of her life, Edwin (Ed) A. Henningson, who was a recent graduate of pilot training at Webb Air Force Base.  Dee and Ed were married in Big Spring April 16, 1955.

Mrs. Henningson enjoyed being an officer’s wife and was active in the Officer’s Wive’s Club.  She was especially fond of Bridge, bowling, and Mahjong.  She lived a full life traveling the world as a wife, mother, and nurse.  She also participated in a variety of charitable causes.  In their latter years Dee and Ed traveled on cruise ships enjoying the comfort, wonderful food, and adventures they afforded.

Dee is survived by her spouse, Edwin Henningson; 3 daughters Melinda Wroten (Michael) of Memphis, TN, Marjori Vanucci (Gary) of Mechanicsville, MD, Melissa Ilic (Matthew) of Gainesville; 10 grandchildren Krista Wroten, Jordan Wroten, Ellen Wroten, Nelson Vanucci, Nathanael Vanucci (Megan), Nicolas Vanucci (Ashley), Noah Vanucci (Breanna), Morgan Ilic (Dustin) , Anna Ilic, Emily Ilic; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Beverly Dee Sanders (Richard) of Knoxville, TN.

Mrs. Henningson was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Jane Belk.

A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) would be appreciated.  As per Dee’s request, cremation arrangements are under the care of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
