Don Hawkins

A service memorializing the life of Donald Ray Hawkins, 80, of Gainesville, is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Gary Anglin officiating.  The family will receive friends at 1:00 P.M., prior to the service.

Mr. Hawkins passed away February 6, 2021 in Gainesville.

Mr. Hawkins was born March 20, 1940 in Wichita Falls to Anson Galloway and Eura Dollie (Parker) Hawkins.  He was raised in the Acme and Quanah areas and graduated from Texas Tech University.  Don was then employed by Texas Power & Light Co. in Dallas in the Community and Industrial Development Department.  In 1968, he married Dixie Read in Decatur.  The family moved to Gainesville in 1972 and Don began his career as a real estate broker with Osborne-Hawkins Real Estate, before opening his own firm, Hawkins & Associates, eventually retiring in 2010.  In retirement, his two favorite pastimes were playing golf and wood turning.  Mr. Hawkins was proudly a member of First United Methodist Church of Gainesville.

Survivors include: wife, Dixie Hawkins of Gainesville; daughter, Tracy Garza and husband, Gary of Rockwall; daughter, Amy Butler and husband, Vince of Chattanooga, TN; son, Ben Hawkins and wife, Shawna of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; and brother, Dan Hawkins of Quanah.

Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Bill Hawkins; and sister, Annetta Reusch.
