Don Winston Woodruff, 97, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away peacefully January 18, 2023 surrounded by family at his home.
Don was born August 27, 1925 in Gainesville to A. C. Woodruff and Leola Barrett Woodruff. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 to serve as a gunnery instructor during World War II. He returned home to marry the love of his life, Marjorie Kaden. After the war, he attended the University of Texas and became a pharmacist. He owned Woodruff Pharmacy until he retired, but continued working in pharmacy, commuting to Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman and also working at the Muenster Pharmacy. He enjoyed playing golf, going out to the “farm” and tending the horses. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved God and his church and has been a long-time member of First United Methodist since the age of 11, serving on many committees.
Don is survived by his wife of over 74 years, Marjorie Kaden Woodruff; his three daughters: Linda Boyer and husband Steve, Claudia Bourland, Susan McDonald and husband Doug; grandchildren: Leslie Russwurm and husband Clayton, Bryan Bourland, Allie Rich and husband Justin, Lindsey Barghi and husband Cameron; 7 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Woodruff was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dennis Woodruff.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2023 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Adam Spore officiating. Graveside services will be privately held at Fairview Cemetery with military honors. A visitation is scheduled for 6:00 PM Friday, January 27, 2023 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
