Dorothy Marie Vogel Beyer, 90, went to meet the Lord on February 9, 2019, in Denton, Texas, after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born at home on the farm on August 14, 1928, in Muenster, Texas, the oldest of thirteen children born to Joseph Frank and Frances Hartman Vogel. Dorothy and her siblings grew up on farms in Myra and Muenster and helped in farming, milking cows, and chopping and picking cotton. Dorothy attended St. Mary’s School in Gainesville, Texas, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Muenster, Texas, in 1946. She married Robert Jacob Beyer on October 19, 1949, and they lived on a farm northeast of Lindsay, Texas, where they raised four children. RJ was a farmer and carpenter, and Dorothy was a homemaker. Robert died of lung cancer on November 30, 1968, and after his death, Dorothy worked at the Lindsay ISD lunchroom where she became friends with many of the students. Later she was employed at T G & Y and Stevens Floor Coverings. Dorothy continued to raise her children and ran the farm until just a few months ago. She always showed a devotion to her Catholic faith and loved sports, Dirk Nowitski, crossword puzzles, KGAF Radio and
Swap It to Me
, and her Dust Buster.
Dorothy is survived by her four children Gary Beyer and wife Patricia, Mary Jane Beyer, Brenda Beyer Hopkins and husband Charles, and Carolyn Beyer Pickle and husband Charles, grandchildren Kelly Beyer, Meagan Pickle, and Jacob Pickle and his wife Jenna, and great grandson Hudson Painter. She is also survived by siblings Evelyn Otto, Lillian Walterscheid, Norma Muller (Don), Corina (Corky) Keys, Leonard Vogel (Christel), Virginia (Ginger) Sherrell (Kenneth), Donald Vogel (Janie), Weldon Vogel, Karen Hoenig (Daniel), brothers- and sisters-in-law Leo Hess, Eve Vogel, and Raymond and Rosalie Sandmann, and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by husband Robert, parents Joseph and Frances Vogel, brother Wilbert Vogel, sisters Mary Lou Hess and Glenda Vogel, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law. At her request, her body was donated to UT Southwestern Medical School.
A rosary will be recited at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lindsay, Texas, at 7 P.M. on February 15, 2019, with visitation to follow at Conrad Hall. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s at 10 A.M. on February 16, 2019. Dorothy’s remains will be buried next to her husband’s in St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church Maintenance Fund, PO Box 148, Lindsay, Texas 76250 or St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 1303 Eagle Drive, Denton, Texas 76201 in care of Father Kyle Walterscheid.
