Edith M. Welch

A memorial service for Edith Welch (Howard), of Gainesville, will be held at First Baptist Church of Muenster on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ralph Gourley officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  Mrs. Welch will privately be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville.

Edith was born February 2, 1932.  She passed away at age 91 on February 26, 2023 in Gainesville.

Mrs. Welch worked several jobs in her lifetime.  She worked hard on a dairy for years, as a home health aide, and at Welch’s Drive Inn with her husband for many years in Gainesville.  Her greatest accomplishment was as a devoted wife and mother to eight children.

Survivors include: daughter Barbara Keen of Saint Jo; daughter Brenda Pierce of Ardmore, OK; daughter Kathy Greene of Bowie; daughter Susan Tuggle and husband Ricky of Saint Jo; son John Welch of Gainesville; and son-in-law Randy Proffer of Myra; 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Welch was preceded in death by: husband Virgil R. Welch; daughter Ann Clark; daughter Virginia Proffer; son Virgil “Gene” Welch; grandson Vernon Keen; grandson Christopher Pierce; granddaughter Marie Martin; son-in-law William “Willie” Keen; son-in-law Lee Pierce; father John Howard; mother Ethal McBride; and brother Charlie Howard.
