Edwin Demps Knight, 88, of Era, passed away December 25, 2021 in Gainesville.
Demps was born April 26, 1933 in Gainesville, TX. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He married Norma Ann Inglish on January 28, 1961 in Gainesville. His first occupation was as an Air Traffic Controller, retiring after a 30-year career. His second career was as a farmer/rancher and he loved all things agriculture. He enjoyed serving as a Director for the Cooke County Farm Bureau for many years. He was also a member of Era Masonic Lodge and a member of Era Methodist Church. Demps loved any kind of game, especially Dominos and playing “42”. He enjoyed traveling, reading, and music. Most of all, he treasured the time he spent with family and friends.
Mr. Knight was preceded in death by: parents, William Turner and Alma (Vann) Knight; brother, Van Knight Sr.; brother, Billy Knight; sister, Emma Bentley; sister, Mozelle Brown; sister, Johnnie MacDonald; and brother-in-law, Ray Hartfiel.
Survivors include: wife, Ann Knight of Era; son, Kevin Knight and wife, Emily of Hereford; daughter, Karen Knight Crowder and husband, Michael of Argyle; son, Keith Knight and wife, Shannon of McKinney; grandchildren: Diane Knight, Richard Knight, Connor Knight, John Crowder, Collin Knight, Jason Crowder, and Carson Knight; sister, Pat Hartfiel of New Braunfels; cousin, Billy Vann and wife, Sandy of Valley View; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. on Sunday, January 2, 2021, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Era First Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Layton and Rev. Larry Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Era Cemetery. Mr. Knight’s grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, where Mr. Knight received treatment for clubfoot as a child. https://scottishriteforchildren.org/
