Funeral services for Elizabeth Ledbetter Burris are set for 2:00 PM Friday, September 24, 2021 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Tyson Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burris passed away on September 21, 2021 in Gainesville.
Elizabeth was born on October 16, 1942 in Greenwood, AR to Noble and Lena Ledbetter. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1961. She met her husband Jimmie Burris on a blind date in 1960 that was arranged by a friend and cousin of Jim’s while he was in town with family during Thanksgiving in 1960. They were married on September 10, 1961.
After Jim spent some time in the Army they moved to Borger, where two of their children were born. They then moved to Mineral Wells for a short while and then to Henrietta. In 1971 they moved to Gainesville because Jim was transferred by his employer, the State Dept. of Health. Their third child was born in Gainesville.
Liz loved family history making genealogy her hobby. She went on to work for the Gainesville School District in 1980. She was the cafeteria manager at Lindsay Elementary. She loved serving the kids in her cafeteria and they loved her. She loved to talk and joke with them as they came through the line.
Liz was a good mother and raised three good kids. She loved to talk to everyone; no one was a stranger to her. She had a green thumb and raised some very good vegetable gardens, winning an award for yard of the month.
Mrs. Burris is survived by her husband Jim; daughter and son-in-law Deanna and George Pitzinger; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Shelly Burris; daughter Denise Burris; grandchildren: Laura de laCampa and husband Billy, Jennifer Pitzinger, Molly Fitts, Stephane Pitzinger, Nicholas Stout; great-grandchildren: Kylee Cain, Trajan de laCampa, Samantha Fitts. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bob Ledbetter, brother Jim Bill Ledbetter, sister Dober Hardy, and grandson William Pitzinger.
