Ellen "Gussie" Marie Utting

Ellen Marie Utting, affectionately known as “Gussie, passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2019 ironically on Canada Day.   Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 10th, 1940 and survived her parents Marion and Gordon Utting, her big brother Steve and sister-in-law Mary.

Gussie is survived by her nephew Warren and his daughter Addie and her niece Amy,

husband Mark and children Owen and Ashley.

With her during her final days were her nephew, niece, dear friend / traveling companion / supportive care-giver Vicki Liles and long time friends Barbara George, Fran Norman, and Kathie Milburn.

We are thankful to the Lake Kiowa Community and the Home Hospice Staff for their loving support.

Gussie had an amazing jet setting life and made sure she enjoyed life to the fullest! Gussie retired in 2003 after a successful 40 year career with American Airlines where she shared her skills as a Stewardess/Flight Attendant, Purser, Flight Attendant Trainer, CURE Representative; Stewardess Union President and other Special Assignments.

Gussie was active in her retirement years in the Gainesville and Lake Kiowa, Texas area as she lovingly tended to her extraordinary gardens of daylillies and iris and beautified many areas with her skills as a volunteer Master Gardener.  A member of the Lake Kiowa Women's Club, she scored with hands in community bridge games and created and stitched beautiful quilts in which she often donated to local charities.  She worked as a CASA Volunteer and loved spending time with her cat, Hoagie.

Gussie was a loving and caring friend to many in her life.  Her energy and compassion will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Memorial service will take place on Wednesday, July 31st at 11:00 am St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Gainesville, TX. Celebration of Life to follow at the Lodge in Lake Kiowa, Texas at 1pm.
