Ethel (Sue) Branyan Dickerson

September 13, 1918 — May 10, 2018

In the presence of loving family, Ethel (Sue) Branyan Dickerson went to meet her lord and savior.  Sue passed away on May 10, 2018 at the age of 99 years.

Funeral services for Ms. Dickerson will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. David Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at the New Resthaven Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, one hour before the service.

Sue was born September 13, 1918 in Cooke County to Willie and Jewel (Keeton) Jones.  Her early years were spent attending school in Bolivar and growing up in the Valley View area.  She established many lifelong friends while selling Avon Cosmetics for 35 years in Gainesville, and later buying and selling collectables.

Sue was a faithful member of Harvey Street Baptist Church for over 60 years.  For the past 15 years, she had resided at the Turner Apartments.

Ms. Dickerson was preceded in death by her father and mother Willie and Jewel Jones; brother Willie Wayne Jones, Jr.; sister Peggy Ann Jones; husband Newt Branyan; husband Leonard Dickerson.

Ms. Dickerson is survived by her brothers, Weldon E. Jones of Perryton, TX and Clemmy J. Jones of Gainesville; daughter Frances Jaurice (Branyan) Berry of Nashville, TN; son James Newton (Jim) Branyan, Jr. and wife Leslie of Arlington, TX; son John Wayne Branyan of Gainesville; grandchildren:  Mark Berry, Kelly Berry, Dalon and Michelle Berry, all of Nashville, Jennifer Hunter of Sanger, James Newton Branyan III and Lexy of Arlington, TX, Lori and Bradley Metrock of Nashville, TN, Melissa and Tim Mays of Arlington, TX.  She is also survived by many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Ms. Dickerson was also a very special aunt of Harlan, Hulen, Archie Scott, Joyce (Scott) Bentley, and Eva (Scott) Kellogg.  The family is most grateful to Gina (Branyan) Robles for being a devoted friend and extraordinary caregiver.

Serving as pallbearers are:  Phil Adams, Bill Turner, James Long, Charlie Langston, Mark Kirtpatrick, and Tim Mays.  Honorary pallbearers are:  Jim Goldsworthy, Mark Berry, Dalon Berry, James Branyan III, and Bradley Metrock.

Sue’s many friends and relatives will remember her as gold that God refined with the challenges of life; so that her life truly shined and left a legacy of beautiful memories.  We will always remember her reflections of a faithful Christian life filled with love, compassion, charm, and joy that will live on forever in our hearts and minds.

Memorials in Sue’s honor may be made to Harvey Street Baptist Church, 201 Harvey St. Gainesville, TX 76240, a charity of your choice, or with flowers.
