Evelyn D. Delassus

Evelyn Duplantier deLassus, age 98, of Goodyear, AZ died on November 7, 2023.

She was born in New Orleans, LA in 1925 to Armand and Florelle Duplantier. She was the sixth of 11 children born to her parents.

She met the love of her life, Paul deLassus, in 1949 (both New Orleans natives) and quickly began a beautiful romance that led to marriage in 1950 and a wonderful life together for 58 years. They began to grow their family right away and provided a close, loving and secure childhood for 6 children – Bruce, Gary, Michele, Robert, John and Renee. Evelyn and Paul shared many friends, interests, hobbies and activities, including church, golf, bridge, gin, volunteer work and of course, parties. Family was always number one to Evelyn and Paul and the family’s love and closeness remained throughout her life. Evelyn would want everyone to know that she shot a “hole-in-one” while playing golf with her son, Robert!

Evelyn and Paul lived in Gretna, LA with their 6 children until 1971. At that time, they moved to Dallas, TX with 5 of their 6 children (the oldest joining the Air Force). The remaining 5 children went to and graduated from schools in TX, and began their independent lives (going to various colleges, marriages, and having babies). Paul retired in 1982 and they left their empty nest and moved to Lake Kiowa, TX, where they quickly made dozens and dozens of friends, and had a full and happy life together until Paul died in 2008. Evelyn remained in Lake Kiowa until 2013, when she moved to Colorado, then Arizona, to be closer to her adult children.

Evelyn was preceded in death by Paul deLassus, her husband of 58 years (died in 2008), and her son, Robert deLassus (also died in 2008). She is survived by Bruce deLassus and his wife, Kathy; Gary deLassus and his wife, Cathy; Michele deLassus Wilson and her husband, Richard; John deLassus and his wife Diana; and Renee deLassus and her wife, Sarah. She is also survived by two sisters (Betty and Miriam).

As of the date of her death, Evelyn had 11 grandchildren (Shannon, Michael, Stephen, Mark, David, Patrick, Alison, Laura, Lea, Taylor, and Justin), 15 great grandchildren (Morgan, Lacie, Jackson, Dallas, Elijah, Avery, Nicholas, Riley, Kaija, Carter, Taylor, Lydia, Landon, Sofia, and Beauden), and 1 great, great grandchild (Dior). This list is sure to grow longer…

At this time, no services are planned. The family will get together in the near future to celebrate Evelyn’s life. If you are so inclined, please donate to your local hospice organization in honor of Evelyn’s life.
