Evelyn Vogel Otto

May 24, 1930 — June 11, 2021

Evelyn Margaret Vogel Otto, 91, went to meet the Lord on June 11, 2021, in Gainesville, Texas.  She was born at home on the farm on May 24, 1930, in Myra, Texas, the second oldest of thirteen children born to Joseph Frank and Frances Hartman Vogel.  Evelyn and her siblings grew up on farms in Myra and Muenster and helped in farming, milking cows, and chopping and picking cotton.  Evelyn attended Sacred Heart School in Muenster where she graduated in 1948 as Valedictorian.  She married Clifford Eugene Otto on October 11, 1952 and they lived in Gainesville, Texas where they raised three children.  Evelyn managed Nascoga Federal Credit Union for 18 years retiring on April 30,1997.  She loved her job and enjoyed helping her customers.  Evelyn always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger.  She enjoyed traveling and she was an avid walker walking three miles a day for many years.  She enjoyed her grandchildren and attended their many sporting events.  Evelyn always showed devotion to her Catholic faith and was a lifetime parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Evelyn is predeceased by husband Clifford Otto, daughter Linda Otto Lusk, parents Joseph and Frances Vogel, brother Wilbert Vogel and sisters Dorothy Beyer, Mary Lou Hess and Glenda Vogel and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Evelyn is survived by two children Mike Otto and wife Sandy, Sue Otto Fuller and husband Donnie,  three grandchildren Trinity Otto and wife Ashley, Emerald Otto Trammell and husband Alan, Yancey Otto, four great grandchildren Juliet Otto, Bowen  Trammell, Lawson Trammell and Scottie Trammell.

She is also survived by siblings Lillian Walterscheid, Norma Muller, Corina (Corky) Keys, Leonard Vogel (Christel), Virginia (Ginger) Sherrell (Kenneth), Donald Vogel (Janie), Weldon Vogel, Karen Hoenig (Daniel), brothers-and sisters-in-law Leo Hess, Eve Vogel, Herb and Ruby Otto, Wallace Dougherty, Jim Schumacher, Pat Otto and many loved nieces and nephews.

At her request, her body was donated to UT Southwestern Medical School.

A rosary will be recited at St. Mary's Catholic Church,  825 N. Weaver, Gainesville, Texas, at 6:00p.m. on June  25, 2021 with visitation to follow at the parish hall.  A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's on June 26, 2021 at 10:00a.m.  Evelyn's remains will be buried next to her husband in Fairview Cemetery at a later date.  Donations may be made to Home Hospice of Cooke County, 316 S. Chestnut, Gainesville, TX 76240 or Abba Women's Center, 214 N. Taylor, Gainesville, TX 76240.
