Florence "Flo" Brooks

August 5, 1938 — June 12, 2023

Florence (Flo) Brooks was born in Rush Springs, Oklahoma on August 5, 1938.  She was the daughter of Eldon Heatley and Ruth Davis Heatley.  She graduated high school in Breckenridge, Texas in 1956.  She worked for a local attorney after graduation.  She married Philip Brooks on December 23, 1956.  They lived in several locations before settling down in Gainesville, Texas.  The family bought an old hotel and had it moved to Callisburg and renovated it for the family home in 1965.  They resided here until their deaths.  Flo enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, vacationing, but above all she had a great love for her great-grandchildren.

Florence is survived by: sister Linda Hill from Breckenridge; daughter and son-in-law Tracy and John Waite of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Cheryl Brooks of Callisburg; daughter-in-law Cheryl Brooks of Aberdeen, Ohio; grandchildren Jennifer (Matt) Jeffers of Maysville, Kentucky, Kerry Brooks of Aberdeen, Ohio, Logan Brooks of Gainesville, Samantha (Casey) Estep from Krum, and Clayton Waite of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nephews John Hill (Carla) of Breckenridge and Sam (Tashanna) Hill; and great-grandchildren Layla Waite of Lindsay, Briar and Kodi Estep of Krum, Heath Waite of Jacksonville, Florida, and Bailey Jeffers of Maysville, Kentucky.

Flo was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons Tim and Steve; and daughter Kelly Lynn.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, TX.


Serving as honorary pallbearers are Mark Mask, Rory Davis, Rusty Jones, Steve Hennigan, Casey Estep, Briar Estep, Brian Stiles, James Brooke, and Sam Hill.

The family would like to give special thanks to DeVita Dialysis Cottage, Pecan Tree Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, Heart to Heart Hospice, and all of Mom’s doctors she had over the years.  Memorial contributions would be appreciated in Mom‘s name to the Stanford House in Gainesville, First Christian Church of Gainesville, and National Diabetes Association.
