Frances Jane (Hefner) Vaughn

Frances Jane (Hefner) Vaughn, 84, of Gainesville, TX passed away on August 7, 2024, at Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital, Denton, TX. She was born on June 7, 1940, in Newton, NC to Ralph and Ona Hefner.

Frances graduated from Bandy’s High School in Catawba, NC. After that, she began her career in banking at the First Citizens Bank in Newton, NC, and later at Bank of America in Charlotte, NC where she faithfully served for many years until retirement.

Frances married and later had four beautiful daughters and raised them in Charlotte, NC where they were long-time members of Mulberry Baptist Church. After retirement, Frances moved to Newton, NC where she was an active member of First Baptist Church. She recently moved to Gainesville, TX to marry the love of her life, Johnny Bittick, on June 19, 2024. In her spare time she loved learning everything about Texas, as it became her new home. She also loved tending to the beautiful flowers in her garden, watching the birds at her feeders, reading, and most of all, spending time with her beloved family. Above all, Frances fiercely loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and embodied the true spirit of the Proverbs 31 woman. Her powerful and faithful prayers over her family and friends will be felt for generations to come.

Frances is survived by her husband Johnny Bittick of Gainesville, Texas, her beloved daughters, Chrissy Coley (Tim), Durham, NC, Sheena Forbes, Hickory, NC, Jenny McCarver, Mooresville, NC and Caroline Griffin (Matt), Cornelius, NC, three beautiful grandchildren (Christopher, Jesse, and Anna), and her two precious great-grandchildren (Marceline and Kaiden); siblings Betty (Hefner) Harris, Newton, NC, Twyla (Hefner) and Vic, Catawba, NC, Ruby (Hefner) Childers and Gary, Taylorsville, NC, Mary (Hefner) Johnson, Conover, NC, James Hefner and Retha, Granite Falls, NC, Conrad Hefner, Wilksboro, NC, and Jonathan Hefner and Gwen, Conover, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ona Hefner. We can only imagine the homecoming celebration that awaited her. Frances is dearly loved and will be missed by many.

Memorial services will be held at George J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville, TX, on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Jeff Langley of First Baptist Church Gainesville officiating.
