Frieda Fiske

Funeral services for Frieda Fiske, 73, of Lake Kiowa, are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at First United Methodist Church of Gainesville.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.  Mrs. Fiske will be lying in repose at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home beginning the afternoon of Thursday, August 1.

Mrs. Fiske passed away July 27, 2019 in Gainesville.

Frieda was born July 18, 1946 in Sulphur Springs to Clifton and Louise (Garrett) Cagle.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Texas at Austin and her Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Toledo.  Frieda practiced as an attorney for many years, eventually reaching the position of Municipal Court Judge for Dallas County.  She married James A Fiske on October 21, 1960 in Denton County.  She was active in various Republican Women’s groups and the Lake Kiowa Women’s Association.  Frieda enjoyed playing Bridge, Canasta, and attending Bible studies.  She travelled the world and especially enjoyed cruises.  She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville.

Mrs. Fiske was preceded in death by: parents Clifton and Louise Cagle; husband James Fiske; and son Samuel Jones-Fiske.

Survivors include: daughter Sherri Vavra and husband Keith of Lake Kiowa; daughter Tracy Burtt and husband Jay of Celebration, FL; daughter-in-law Kathy Collett and husband Gene of Dallas; grandchildren: Craig Jones and wife Tera, Mallory Bonds and wife Stacy, Bryan Jones and wife Merichelle, Drew Vavra, Jeremy Burtt and wife Makayla, Melodie Vavra, Chelsea Seatherton and husband Bradley, Joshua Vavra, and Delaney Burtt.  Mrs. Fiske is also survived by many great-grandchildren and other extended family members.
