Gary Dale Lewis, Sr., 81, of Callisburg, Texas, passed from this life to his eternal home on December 22, 2024. Gary was born on July 11, 1943, in Gainesville, Texas, to Victor and Pauline Lewis, and grew up surrounded by love, family, and a strong sense of community.

Gary will be remembered for his love for the Lord and strong faith, which were evident to all who knew him. He touched the lives of many through his kindness, sense of humor, and generosity, always offering a helping hand and a warm smile.

Gary was deeply loved by his wife, Janie Wilson, whom he married on April 1, 1972. Together they shared four children. He was a faithful husband, loving father, and a fun, devoted Papa.

Gary retired from the BNSF Railroad in 2003 after 31 years as a locomotive engineer. His coworkers on the railroad affectionately referred to him as "Lew," and those bonds of friendship have endured throughout his life.

Gary is survived by his wife, Janie Lewis; his children: Gary Dale Lewis, Jr. and wife Emily, Renee Roessler and husband Mike, Trini McMeen, and Bridget Floyd. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Hines and husband Danny; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Pauline Lewis; and brother, Darrell Lewis.

A funeral service to celebrate Gary's life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A committal service will follow the funeral at Callisburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Callisburg Cemetery Association c/o Alice La Flamme – 13653 Big Indian Rd., Callisburg, TX 76240.
