Jerry Tatum, 73, of Gainesville, TX, passed away October 21, 2023, at home. A memorial service is scheduled at Cooke County Cowboy Church in Oakridge on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 1 p.m. and a graveside service to follow at 3 p.m. at Era Cemetery.
History
Jerry was born on May 15, 1950, to Herman and Nita Tatum in Gainesville, TX. He grew up in Era, excelled in high school football where he wore the number 21 and graduated from Era High School in 1968. He married Fredda Blamire in Gainesville on December 20, 1968. Jerry pursued various careers in his younger days. He ultimately continued the family water well business, cut and sold firewood, refurbished houses, and worked at the Gainesville State School as a houseparent until he retired. After retirement he continued the water well business, Tatum Well Service, and sold firewood until recently. Jerry was a member of Cooke County Cowboy Church.
Survivors
Survivors include: wife Fredda Tatum of Gainesville; daughter Kimberly Carroll (David) of Lake Kiowa; daughter Stephanie Crooks (Christopher) of Denton; grandchildren Megan Campbell (Brendan), Blake Carroll, Carson and Chase Crooks; two great-grandchildren Shiloh and Aryn Campbell; sister Frances Russell of Collinsville; brother Ronnie Tatum of Gainesville; sister-in-law Sharlene Willis (Stanley) of Gainesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother Emmett Tatum.
Donations
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the youth ministry of Cooke County Cowboy Church, Noah’s Ark SPCA, or Home Hospice of Cooke County.
