Gladys Marie Anglin

Gladys M. Anglin (Kammerdiener) of Denton, Texas went peacefully to her Lord and Savior on November 5, 2019 at the age of 84.  Gladys was born in Gainesville, Texas, and was the fourth of nine children born to Charlie and Ethel (Plumlee) Kammerdiener, Sr.  She is survived by her siblings: Norma McNew, Polly Bevil & Bryan Kammerdiener.  She is predeceased by her parents Charlie & Ethel Kammerdiener, Sr., and her siblings; Dorene Kammerdiener, Charlie Kammerdiener, Jr., Nancy Krahl, Clifford Kammerdiener, and Sue Austin.  She was a resident of Texas the majority of her life, with a short stint of living in California.

Gladys grew up on the family farm out on Old Denton Road in Gainesville, Texas.  She loved school and was always an outstanding student.  She was active in 4-H, Home Nursing, High School Band, and the Downard-Fairplains Church of Christ. After just getting started in college she met and married Arthur F. Anglin, Jr.  This put her plans for college off, but just for a while.  While raising her children she attended North Texas State University and later Stanislaus State University in Turlock, California.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Education and completed her graduate work to earn her Teaching Credential.

While attending Texas A&M for a special summer session Gladys met Arthur F. Anglin, Jr. one Sunday morning at the College Station Church of Christ.  Arthur was serving in the US Air Force at the time.  They were married December 5, 1953.   At the time of her passing, they had celebrated 65 years together.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Gladys is predeceased by her husband Arthur less than two months ago, and survived by, her children; Mark (Patty) Anglin, Fil (Kathy) Anglin, Jason (Carol) Anglin, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Gladys was a Godly woman and lifelong member of the Church of Christ.  She served the Lord as the wife of an Elder in the Church while attending both the Hillcrest Church of Christ and the Commerce Street Church of Christ, both in Gainesville, Texas.

Gladys was an elementary school teacher her entire working career.  She started her teaching career in California at Schendel and Ballico Elementary schools.  After moving back to Texas, she taught for the Walnut Bend ISD, and then concluded her career with the Gainesville ISD after 25 years of teaching. Over the span of her career she taught hundreds of kids and provided them with the skills necessary to be successful in life.  Along with teaching she helped to support her husband Arthur in their ranching ventures.  From dairying in Texas, to raising feeder cattle in California, to operating a cow-calf operation back in Texas, she was by his side.

Gladys and Arthur were great travelers.  When the children were young it was mostly to visit family in Texas traveling by car.  After retirement they expanded their range and mode of travel reaching Canada, Mexico, and many parts of the United States.  Additionally, they were gracious hosts and hosted many nights of playing the domino game ‘forty-two’ with their good friends.

The time came to slow down and a move was made to the Good Samaritan Society, Denton Village in Denton, TX.  They adjusted to a smaller life but continued to be active in the Church while attending the Sherman Drive Church of Christ.  They always made great friends wherever they were.

The family would like to thank everyone from the Good Samaritan Society, Denton Village and the Texas Home Health & Hospice who so lovingly attended to her comfort and care.

A viewing will be held at the Geo. J Carroll & Son Funeral Home, 602 S. Lindsay Street, Gainesville, TX 76240 on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the same venue.  Interment immediately following the funeral service at the Callisburg Cemetery, Kirby Rd, Callisburg, Texas. Following the interment, a reception for family and friends will be at the Edelweiss Tea Haus, Gainesville, TX.
