Gregory Robert Ellyett, 75, of Gainesville, passed away April 27, 2024 in Denton.

Greg was born January 1, 1949 at Fort Belvoir, VA to James Ellyett, Jr. and Dorothy Wolfe.  His family moved to Aurora, NE during his childhood and he graduated high school there in 1967.  While in high school, Greg excelled at several sports and was captain of the basketball team.  He then began his military career with the Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam.  Mr. Ellyett then transferred to the Army National Guard and served until retirement.  He retired from Weber Aircraft in 2014.

Greg married Joan Hogan on June 17, 1977 at First Christian Church, Gainesville.  He participated in the Gainesville Men’s Softball League, played golf, and enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his family.  Mr. Ellyett was also a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and Vietnam Veteran’s Association.  As a member of First Christian Church, he served as a Deacon and Elder, and participated in the Choir and Men’s Breakfast.  He treasured most his time spent with family and two cats, Marlene and Fluffy.

Survived by: wife Joan Ellyett of Gainesville; daughter Sara Boles and husband Chris of Tioga; sister Amy Wiseman and husband Mike of Grand Island, NE; sister Margie Czaplewski and husband Mike of Kearney, NE; sister Patti Ellyett of Dallas; sister-in-law Pat Ellyett of Holiday Island, AR; sister-in-law Linda Harlow and husband Lefty of Whitesboro; brother-in-law Tom Hogan and wife Elaine of Gainesville; brother-in-law Robert Hogan and Gayle Shepard of Denton; sister-in-law Lisa Hancock of Denton; and nieces and nephews: R.J. Banse, Elliot Banse, Andrea Wiseman, Cheri, Teresa, Joel, Kristin, Brian, Emily, Jason, Sam, and Ben.

Predeceased by: his parents and brother Jim Ellyett.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2024 at First Christian Church, Gainesville.  The family will receive friends, beginning at 10:00 a.m., and a funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Interment, with military honors, will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville.
