Harry Freelon Johnston

Harry Freelon Johnston passed away at his home in Gainesville, TX on January 12, 2019 at the age of 95.  He was born in Blackwell, OK on May 9, 1923 to Harry, Sr. and Mary Johnston, who preceded him in death. He spent most of his youth in Davenport, OK and graduated from High School there.

He joined the Army in 1943 serving as a sergeant of the 465 th Amphibian Transportation during WWII in the Pacific.  After the war, he went to work in Guam and met and married the love of his life, Rufina Aflleje Tydingco, in 1949.  He was married to her until her passing in 2001.  He was a retiree of Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO).

He is survived by his daughter, Dolores Johnston of Lantana, TX; son Charles Johnston of Gainesville, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Almeda and Mark Madenwald of Flower Mound, TX; and granddaughters, Alexa and Kelsey Madenwald of Flower Mound, TX.  Harry was also preceded in death by his daughter and son, Linda and John Johnston, and a sister, Wanda Rae Hollon.

A cremation is pending with the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.  His cremains will be placed at a later date in the New Zion Cemetery in Davenport, OK.  The family members want to thank Pecan Tree Rehab Center in Gainesville, Guardian Healthcare of Sherman, TX and Heart to Heart Hospice of Sherman, TX for their caregiving.
